Why an implant
The closest thing to getting the tooth back
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where the root used to be. Over the next few months the bone grows around it and holds it in place, which is what makes it strong enough to chew on normally.
Once it has healed, a crown is fitted on top. It looks like a tooth, you clean it like a tooth, and unlike a bridge, the healthy teeth on either side are left alone.
Implants also protect your jawbone. Bone stays strong from the pressure of chewing through a root. When a tooth is lost, that bone slowly shrinks. An implant brings the pressure back.

She graduated from the New York University College of Dentistry after earning her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Saveetha Dental College in Chennai, India. She is a member of the American Dental Association and the South Carolina Dental Association.

Can my tooth be saved, or does it need to come out?
It depends on how much healthy tooth and root is left. Many broken or painful teeth can be saved with a crown or root canal. Dr. Mathew will tell you honestly which it is at your visit.
What is a dental implant?
A small titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth, topped with a crown that looks and works like a natural tooth.
Is an implant better than a bridge?
A bridge relies on grinding down the healthy teeth on either side. An implant stands on its own and leaves those teeth alone. Dr. Mathew will go over which makes sense for you.
How long does an implant take?
The implant is placed in one visit. The bone then heals around it for a few months before the permanent crown goes on. You will get a timeline specific to you at your consultation.
Does it hurt?
Dr. Mathew will talk you through numbing and comfort options before anything begins. Most people are surprised how manageable it is.
Can I make payments?
Yes. We accept CareCredit and offer monthly payment plans. We go over it with you at your consultation.
